Rogelio’s Art Studio Rogelio Duval is a longtime Boston Chapter member who is currently active in the Cemetery Project. The Cemetery Project was proposed by a leader in the c/s/x (consumer/ survivor/ex-patient) movement, Pat Deegan. In order to celebrate the dignity of the lives of those who died and were buried at state hospitals—often in unmarked graves—and to form a rallying point for the c/s/x movement, Dr. Deegan proposed that we clean up the cemeteries at the state hospitals. These cemeteries have gone untended for decades, and are sprouting up with weeds and thorns. When he is not literally asking “where are the bodies buried?” Rogelio likes to draw. With no academic art training he is M-POWER’s resident advocate/folk-artist. His self-portraits are painstakingly done on cardboard such that each line is a sculpted groove. These sculptured drawings are plainly excellent likenesses and the Nutshell is privileged to share them with you.
