Participants Comment On The Imagine Care Conference Editor's Note: Here’s what some of the participants of the conference had to say. M-POWER Thanks all who attended. Maria Navarro: “People got involved, asked questions and came up with answers.” Fran Gray: “I had only 2 hours of sleep due to stomach trouble—liked everything at the conference. I especially liked what Maggie Smith had to say about Board meetings. “ Lee Goldberg: "I only went to half the conference, as I stayed up with Fran Gray the night before. Went to one workshop.” Jim Fraas: “We need more money for next year’s conference. Holding the conference in a small gym next year could be a step down. We need to start planning for next year soon. We should go back to the Host Hotel and have a two day event. I liked the mid-fall conference time and and gained more information about human rights.” Gaston Cloutier: “Great well run, high level of energy; workshops were well done and well attended. I learned a lot. I think a lot of information was passed onto the groups by the facilitators. Dinner was good, these are my primary impressions.” Peter Foulkes: “ Very glad about turnout—lots of positive energy—went smoothly—very professional. Very impressed with results of the survey—people were serious about filling them out. People were also patient about getting T-shirts.” Jim Shaw: “On the pro side the conference was well organized, workshops were easy to find, it was an interesting first conference. On the con side the material for the workshops was a little dull and I didn’t like that when we ran out of food we had a food substitute.” Steve Holochuck: “Wonderful day—a lot of good activities.” Naomi Pinson: “It was fabulous; an incredible effort. It was moving to see so many diverse people. Imagine Care had everybody. The assembly room was too big for Yvette’s speech. I think that for next year, I’d like us to have a day with other presenters to get things together. We should think about what kinds of presentations we will be doing and will it fit the hall.” Mary Esther Rohman: “I was very moved by it. I had never been with so many people in recovery in one place. It felt like I had a peer group which was a very good feeling. Next year should be more of the same. The workshop I went to was very good.” Mozella Williams: "I don’t think there were any negative things. We had a very good reception by the people. You could tell they knew exactly what we were talking about and they felt it. It was excellent!” Martin Koehler: “I felt the spirit was very high—with a strong sense of identity as a group of consumers/survivors and ex-patients. The workshop methods were good, the caucuses were good, and Tune Foolery was good.” Susan Landy: “It was well attended, this was the best thing about it. I liked the T-shirts and Pat Deegan’s pictorial account of the history of mental hospitals.”
